“I love this movie!”
“Yum! Bell Peppers!”
These are the comments I heard from my preschool class while watching the new Copy-Kids DVD, Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables.
What is Copy-Kids? I think the description on their website says it best:
Copy-Kids is a media company producing video that encourages positive habits in young children, by watching and copying other kids. Copy-Kids unique content — DVD, online and TV — helps parents get their children hooked on healthy and positive habits.
Produced for children aged 6 months to 5 years, Copy-Kids innovative video is fun and compelling for both children and parents.
My class had the opportunity to view Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables, the first DVD in the Copy-Kids series. The premise is simple; the DVD shows young children eating various fruits and vegetables. The disc is broken up into twelve 7 minute chapters, each featuring a different tasty fruit or veggie. There’s also an interview with Dr. Jay Gordon included in the extras, along with some adorably hilarious outtakes.
My students really loved this DVD. We started with bell peppers, and right away they started talking about how much they liked the movie, and how much they loved bell peppers. I had to laugh, because I spend 5 days a week with these kids and I can assure you that if I offered them a bell pepper, none of them (including my own son) would eat it. But seeing kids their own age eating bell peppers and enjoying them made that vegetable seem more attractive to them. We went through all of the vegetables and fruits and the class did not lose interest. They seemed to really enjoy “finding themselves” in the children on the screen; they often compared themselves to the kids on the screen, and I could tell that they identified with what they were seeing.
Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is a great tool for encouraging your child to eat healthy. I plan on showing this often at home and using it to introduce my boys to new foods. I love Copy-Kids approach to learning, and I can’t wait to see what they come out with next. You can follow Copy-Kids on Facebook and Twitter to find out the latest news on their products.
